Intro: The disability rights movement has heightened sensitivity to the unique challenges of the intellectually challenged and learning disabled. This translates into greater scrutiny of suspects and criminal defendants whose intellectual disability makes them vulnerable to the complexities of the criminal justice system, to rehabilitate those whose behaviors would otherwise risk re-offense, and to recognize special populations who cannot prevent their own victimization. Educational mainstreaming and workplace opportunities for the intellectually disabled and especially the learning-disordered are more legally protected than ever before. As the intellectually disabled find roles in the workplace and within their own families, these horizons test the boundaries of one’s rights and the essential demands of employment and parenting.
